This is a very good and valid question. The sunnah or the Traditions of prophet Muhammad(saws) have never changed. However people in the past and present take from it leaving some out and add to it there personal elements which really stem from culture and demographic location. Please remember that the true pure sunnah can not be reinterpreted it is as it has always been pristinely clear. The reform you mention is a call to practice the sunnah as it was done by the prophet and his companions, there followers and the followers, of the followers. or the first three generations of muslims. It should be noted that many times people no matter the faith take what there parents teach them with out true investigation into the practice they are embracing, which leads to blending of innovated matters in the sunnah or traditions.
