I was wondering about the shapeshifters in the series. Can they turn into anyone and anything? And what does it look like when they are shifting?True Blood question about shapeshifters?
It depends....
Technically, they are all shapeshifters. However, some shapeshifters are locked into one particular animal (werewolves--only wolves, weretigers--only tigers, werepanthers--only panthers, etc...). True shapeshifters like Sam though can shift into any animal they want so long as they concentrate on it, however, he usually shifts into a Collie because it's familiar to him and comfortable.
Their shifts are not dramatic in the show at all and oftentimes, it's not even really shown.True Blood question about shapeshifters?
In True Blood, a shape shifter can become any animal s/he chooses, or sometimes turns into the last animal they saw. Sam Merlotte keeps a painting of a collie in his office, because that is his preferred form.
What does it look like? It's really fast when they do the shift. It's not dramatic like werewolves were you watch the nose turn into a snout and etc.
