Ok, another deer question! Is it true that hot sauce or oil or hot peppers, whole or ground, will work?

A garden store employee told me to put this around beds I want to protect. I'm skeptical----------does anybody have experience trying this? Did it help at all? Thanks!Ok, another deer question! Is it true that hot sauce or oil or hot peppers, whole or ground, will work?
Hot pepper wax sprayed on the plants of interest will work better than putting it on the ground . The usual formulation is an insect repellent , but there is also an animal repellent formulation . The former is acceptable if you can't find the latter . The best deer repellent I've found is made from ';putrescent egg solids'; . (They got that right!) Don't remember the exact product name. The scent disappears to the human nose in a couple hours , so not too bad. It remains effective though 2-3 hard rains . It does seem to me that there might be some conditioning of the deer ,to avoid the sprayed plants, after awhile.. Might not have to apply as frequently after they get ';trained'; . Here's a study of various products : http://www.ag.auburn.edu/aaes/communicat鈥?/a>Ok, another deer question! Is it true that hot sauce or oil or hot peppers, whole or ground, will work?
I had 13 deer in my yard one day, so i've tried everything. As i once read in a book....the only thing that consistently works is something that will jump up and chase the deer. I quit trying to grow anything but ferns....it was a losing battle with the deer.
I have read that hot sauce on the leaves will discourage the deer and I imagine it will work to a certain extent.

I live with a lot of deer and have very few problems

I have a lot of hosta planted, the deer love fresh hosta first thing in the spring.

As soon as I see those first sprouts I spray with liquid fence. The following week or two, as they grow some more, I give them another spraying.

I'll spray again when they get big and then once a month.

The reason the deer stay away is because early in the season they tasted my hosta and were repelled by the taste. They know nothing tastes good in my yard.

The liquid fence has something in it that sticks thru rain, unlike the pepper and hot sauce.

I did get a minuscule mist of the liquid fence in my mouth....once, you'd never let that happen a second time. It is really awful and it stays in your mouth for hours. Didn't make me sick or nauseous just taught me a good lesson.
we put string around our garden then hung up a mans strong smelling soap to it about every ten feet.it worked
